Has anyone actually bought a Quest 2 from them?

The problem is:

On the Product Information in English they say the Quest 2 comes with CN8 and 512Mb of additional memory. However when you choose the Product Information in Portuguese (that's what they actually speak because that's a Portuguese based company) they say the Quest 2 comes with CN8 and just 15Mb of additional memory

I emailed them (in portuguese) and they say the info in English was copied from the Gamin website and it's just for the US version (that proves they don't have a clue what they're talking about, because the US version is 140Mb add memory), and the portuguese version is what's correct. I looked on the Garmin UK website and it's stated the 512Mb is for UK version only...

So is there UK version, US version and EU version or just the first two and the people from aspidshop really don't know what they're talking about and I can buy the Quest 2 from them as it'll come with 512Mb additional memory? :nenau

They also stated that a RAM-mount would be included with the Quest 2 but when I asked them they said the information was wrong and they didn't know anything about it...By miracle now the RAM-mount is not there anymore ;)

Any help would be much appreciated :thumb

Several, probably more than 5, guys I know have ordered from them. No problems apart from the RAM mount issue reported. During the last few months two of them bought Quest2.

The Quest2's came with 2GB memory out of which 0.5GB can be used for own maps. The MapSource CD and the City Navigator V8NT DVD where included in the box. Full Europe map was preinstalled. :)

It's only the Aspidshop website that is confused. There is no specific UK version and they, as far as I know, never delivered the RAM mount to anyone. :(

Thanks Mikael :thumb

But now I'm even more confused

I had a look on the Garmin Portugal website and they state just 15 Mb additional memory as well.

"Dispõe ainda de 15 MB de memória interna para carregamento de dados adicionais."

But if you know people who bought and had no problems I think I'll go for them, as they are cheaper!

Cheers

I'd hold up on getting a quest II if I were you until they sort the apparent problem with the slow processor.

I was just about to ask it, thanks Fanum!!! :thumb

I need it for a 4 months trip starting in June, so I'll hold up till mid May and see how it goes.

Cheers

I did some tests and didn't find that the Quest2 was slow in normal usage. OK, if I zoomed far out redraw was much slower than my 276C but with a reasonable zoom rate it worked just fine. You don't drive around with all of Germany on the screen do you?

Set Auto Zoom = Off and Recalculate = Off and the Quest2 will work just fine.

I understand why you set the recalculate Off, but I don't undestand why the Auto Zoom, as it's usefull because the quest's screen doesn't help very much...

Would the slow issue be a software problem or a hardware?

Thanks

The NT-map used in the Quest2 is compressed and reading it takes some extra time. The smaller area on the screen the less map data to read and the faster redraw. By setting the map to a fixed scale you can avoid having the unit zooming out too much.

Set the scale to 200m / 600ft and select your favourite scale from there. If YOU decide the zoom rate and YOU thereby decide the redraw speed you'll find the speed becoming a non-issue.
