Quest 2 Problems Updating to CN v9

My replacement unit arrived this morning. Full marks to Garmin for sending a complete package, even though I was asked to return only the GPS unit, including a car mount (I now have two of these) and, strangely, a French manual.

However, I was a bit irritated to find that it did not have up-to-date firmware and was loaded with ver 8 maps. This meant that I had to update it and then plough through the ver. 9 install again with no guarantee that it would work. It did, and I now have an updated Quest 2.

The new package also included a new ver. 8 DVD with a new unlock code. I suppose this would work on a different unit altogether. Anybody still on ver. 7 and would like a free upgrade to ver. 8?

This may sound a bit daft but if you guys are having problems with your updates have you updated the webupdata software as this is somehow linked and sometimes doesn't work if it isn't on the latest.

Found this out from a mate who had similar problems.

Forget it. The unlock code works only with your Quest2.

If you sit on it for a year or so without registering your new Quest2 it may give you an upgrade to V10 for free.

I thought you could register two units for each time you pay for an update, if
he registers his friends, like he bought it, can he not get a second unlock code.
Obviously that would be dishonest and none of us would actually do something
like that.:angel

Got mine today. Same as above but with v9 pre installed. Would have liked an explanation from garmin about the fault, but can't grumble to much.

First - if you alreaedy have registred two units, the update will only work on those two units.

Second - I may be wrong but I think that you don't have this "additional unit" option to units with preinstalled map as the Quest2. Am I wrong? Someone knows?

I think it's OK with the Quest 2 as that comes with City Nav. on DVD, it's the lesser models that only come with an SD card but no disk that are affected by this. See the policy on the Garmin site.

I have an i3 as well as a Quest, both of which have v8 mapping. Once I can get v9 (non NT for the Quest) I'm still going to try to get a 2nd unlock for the i3. This will, so I'm told, run off either NT or non NT.
