Quest losing sats?

On my way out to Austria last weekend (12/13th August) , I had a problem with my Quest losing the sats all across Belgium and Germany until about Wurzburg and then it seemed to work okay until yesterday when I was coming back and through the Rhine and Belgium back to Dunkerque? Once I realised I didn't have to press the ok button all the time it wasn't so bad! Just irritating.

Is there some reason? On the way out I thought perhaps at 13 months old dear Doris was turning up her toes or at least the aeriel that I have heard can go u/s was on the blink.

But for the best part of 9 days through the Alps and Dolomites the fecker was perfect except when the moiuntains on each side got very steep and the sky was a bit hard to see.....

Any ideas?

Speak to the nice guys down at Garmin in Romsey I had an early quest which threw a wobbler . I called in and they sorted it out pronto Been no trouble since

External Antenna £9.99 (Maplins)

I couldn't really say that I've had problems with signal loss on my Q1 but it has been an occasional issue, especially near trees or near high buildings.

Anyway, I wouldn't have bothered paying out much money for an external antenna but today I found this.......

For a tenner, I thought I'd give it a go. I've only tried it in the car so far but there was an immediate visible increase in signal strength on the GPS info screen of the Quest.

I'm off to France on the bike in 3 weeks so I'll give it a good testing then, but so far so good. Based on initial results, if anyone's having signal strength problems, I'd suggest giving one of these a try.

That's a passive antenna. Typical price for an active antenna is EUR 16-20. Go for that instead!

Are they waterproof? Or can they be wrapped in cling film.....

I Can't speak from experience (yet), but I would have thought that clingfilm would be ok.
When I use it on the bike in France in a couple of weeks I'm literally going to 'dangle' it in the space between the clocks and the screen.

I might well get an opportunity to test it before I go. If I do, I'll post my results

Bought one of these the other day, because I can't get any satellite reception in the car because of the reflective screen.

Thought it would be pretty crap at the price, but it works brilliantly.
