Simply quiery(?) I think!
Does the Garmin Quest have mainland europe pre-loaded into unit(i think UK is preinstalled?) OR do you need a laptop to download it when you cross the channel, not very practical me thinks.

Do I need to buy Garmin 2610/ type unit,I believe this is preloaded with all of europe? Regards Ian

My Quest came with a basic map of the UK and a bit of northern France preloaded. The MapSource City Select software containing the detailed maps came with it and that's the one you need if you want a decent level of information. Currently I have loaded the detail maps for all of England & Wales, including auto-routing.

I can get all of France into it's memory (I checked earlier today) but it depends how much of Europe you want to cover in one trip. For instance I'm off to Garmisch for the rally in a few weeks time so I will be selecting only those maps that cover my route there and a few hundred miles around Garmisch. I won't need any more than that so I won't load it. If I did need more than that then I'd have gone for a 2610 or similar.

Hth.

Thanks , sorry to be thick, but can i put england +spain and france on it from the cd supplied?(it would appear not?) thanks again my friend, I,m off soon from Durham-Plymouth/Santander, Spain then working my way north via Andorra/ LeMans , thank again ,1st time to all this!

If you know where you are going  it helps.... you should be able to fit the corridor of maps from durham to plymouth, and then back home again via the places you mention ok, theres no point of sticking stuff on you don't need, and then doing the routes, as per my previous post there seems to be an issue with
how much routing the quest will hold, I've managed around 2800 miles of mostly non motorway routing before it runs out of internal waypoint memory

Apology accepted :D

In short, yes.

You can select sections of the map from anywhere you like, as many or as few countries as you like up to 243 Mb or thereabouts.

I just noticed something quite useful if you've plotted routes there and back, instead of selecting the maps yourself, right click on the route and click 'Select maps around route'. Once you've done this for each of your routes (providing you don't come up against Schnauzer's problem) you can select further areas of map around those already highlighted.

Hi Folks,

with City Select v7, you'll not be able to get all of France onto the QUEST. If you leave out some of the coastline border region / Paris then that's your 243MB used up.

Plan your route, select the corridor maps around the route (let it select them) then ust add the extra map sections that you're particularly interested in.

My QUEST am with all of UK & some of Norther France detail pre-loaded, but then I upgraded from v6 to v7 (free upgrade as I bought the QUEST recently).

If you want all detail for all europe, loaded all the time, then a 2610 with extra memory 2GB whould do the job - until the next map upgrades..... but at least it uses compact flash, so you only need to buy the memory, not a new GPS.

Hope this helps
