Quest Quest-ion.

Does the Quest log your journey?

Is the Quest 2 worth the extra over the Quest 1?
The Quest can log 10000 log points. You can set the sampling rate and therefore this is sufficient for logging a week or two of daily driving. (The Street Pilot models can only log half a day or so)

The Quest2 is superior if you plan to travel all over Europe. If you only do local travel the Quest1 is all you need.

Ask yourself
'How much of Europe do I need to be loaded onto the GPS device'

I don't want to make your mind up for you, but you can get a lot of info on the Quest, and if you're just touring France - do you need spain / scandanavia/germany etc.

If you're touring in Italy, you would only need the maps or the immediate area of your chosen route to Italy, and then the maps of the actual area that you're exploring.

So you may find that the Q1 has sufficient storage anyway. As you just load the maps you need before your journey.

If however you are travelling far and wide, then you ,ay need to load more of Europe, and that's where the Q2 would win.

I used a Q1 for touring France last year and it was fine. I'll use it this year for a planned trip to the Swiss Alps, So I'll include England (South Coast), French / German roads along the rour route, and the all of Switzerland, and the bordering sections of Northern Italy.

If I need any more than that the basemap will get me from city to city without a problem.

I hope this helps

How much logging will the Quest 1 do?

Looking at Uk - France - Germany - Switzerland (whole country detail) - Austria (alpine region detail) - Germany - France - UK round trip... is there enough map space for that?

Hi,

It doesn't depend upon the areas of maps loaded, only the distance/time you have travelled. If you reduce the logging period, I reckon it will log for around 2000 miles. Unless you want to know what speed you did on a particular bend - the minimum logging will be sufficient for long-distance touring. If you want to play safe - don't start logging until you cross the channel and switch it off before returning.

Also - the new version 8 of the map needs much less space to store the map. Example:

- Scandinavia V7 requires 158 MB.
- Scandinavia V8 requires 96 MB.

The Quest1 has 243 MB available for maps. That's a lot of V8 maps!
