Quest response speed

Having just driven from the UK through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany back to Swizzy, I think may Quest may have an issue ...

Occasionally, at junctions, it doesn't respond in real time, but 2 -3 seconds after the event. This doesn't matter if you keep you eyes glued on the map, but if you don't you can find youself going around Kassel more than once !!!

Also, it seemed to pick some really obscure B road routes to places on much faster A roads ....

I had loaded max maps for the memory ... would this be the issue?

I had the same issue, and got frustrated trying to navigate unfamilar road layouts and complicated junctions whilst it seemed to be paused. Im now looking to the 2610 for its faster processor.

I dont think having more free memory would speed it up, but maybe reducing the level of map detail might help?

I had great fun in Spain last week with the Quest sending me on some seriously weird routes, including going clockwise around some roundabouts After much cursing and vowing to bin the bloody thing, I eventually remembered that I'd left it set to pedestrian mode from the previous evening Other than that it performed fantastically, was accurate to within a few feet and the timing of the directions was spookily good, I reckon it's a brilliant piece of kit but I've had no experience of other GPS systems to compare it with.

What setting did you use to work out the route, "Fastest" or "Shortest"?

Also in settings/Route setup what calculation method are you using, "Quickest calculation", "Quick calculation", "Better Route" or "Best Route"?

These settings will dictate which route/roads the unit directs you on.

Definitely check "Fastest" or "Shortest".

I used "Shortest" at the weekend while exploring Snowdonia and was taken on some very strange routes; roads I would never have dreamt of using, but were great fun to explore when you are not in a hurry.

One problem I do have on the Quest is not all junctions plot correctly when it 'zooms in' for the final navigation. The large direction arrows do not appear. Invariably the Quest then shuts down as I leave the junction and it attempts to 'zoom out' again.

Much fun can be had trying to press the on/off button with gloves on.
