After reading that you can clean scratches on the screen using t cut, I used gentle acrylic scratch remover ...

Now it looks like a have removed some sort of coating from the surface of the screen ...!!

Is the screen coated with an anti glare, or was mine just very, very dirty ?

Thanks

yes it is an anti glare coating

That last post should read "yes, it WAS an anti glare coating".

My screen lost part of it's anti glare coating in the rain after I wiped the screen once with my gloved hand to remove the droplets of water that were obscuring the map.

I spoke to Garmin who say this shouldn't have happened and I will need to send it to them for repair / screen replacement. There is no way of re-applying the anti-glare apparently. Not really convenient to send it in at the moment so it will have to wait.

You must be able to buy anti-glare coated film?

Sorry but the big yellow sticker on the screen when you got the Quest says" this lens is coated with a special anti reflective coatin which is.....very sensitive to abrasive cleaners............clean only using an eyeglass cleaner specified for anti reflective coatings.."

Miond you it doesnt seem to stop glare anyway. So can you now see it better?

:bounce1 I've noticed that with my Quest screen too. Seems to be a common problem...

One question, how do I update the map software that was supplied with my Quest? It's Mapsource (Though I couldn't tell you which version offhand) and is now a few years out of date. I really noticed this when travelling through Spain and Portugal this last Easter where a number of roads were somewhat different to the map!

Any ideas?

If you're using City Select V6, then upgrading to V7 is well worth it, as a lot of stuff has been added for Spain and Portugal. But there is still a lot missing. AFAIK, none of the digital mapmakers have anywhere near full coverage for Spain and Portugal.

 Thanks for that. I've checked and mine is V6.

Is there an internet-based concern where I can get V7 from at all?

Don't get too excited, i have the latest version of mapsource (6.8) and the latest cityselect (V7) and having just returned from spain, there are many many roads that are different from the GPS...

One of the biggest issues seems to be roundabouts.... they're out there, but not in the GPS mapping (some are, but many aren't)

Anyone travelling to Spain expecting their GPS to perform as well over there as it does in the UK... think again!!! :nono Take a paper map too!!! Just in case.

Ditto, I did this last week in Ireland. I strongly suspect that the film is fine in dry conditions, but when it's been wet for a period (whole day in torrential rain), it's much more fragile. I'll have to send mine back for overhaul too.

Garmin told me that V8 is due out October so you might prefer to wait till then
