Quest2. How do I get directions if the start of route is missed?

How do I get directions for the second half of a route, when the unit has not been used for the first half?

IE, if a route from London to Glasgow has been uploaded with lots of waypoints, but the unit has not been switched on until one has already reached Birmingham, how do you get the instructions from that point on, without the 'thing' directing you all the way back to London and starting from scratch?

It'll work it out on its own......just run the route and rather than directing you to point A, it'll take you to the nearest 'node point' (a junction or man feature on the route, then it'll carry on up the rest of the route from there.

You can also force the GPSR to recalculate the route. I'm not exactly sure what the keystroke sequence is to invoke a manual recalculation on a Quest - I have not ever used a Quest - but it should be explained in the manual somewhere.

Download a user manual from Garmin in PDF format, then search for the word 'recalculate' within the PDF.

It didnt work it out for itself today! Each time it recalculated it wanted me to return to the starting place of the route. Eventually it recalculated itself to sleep, locked up and refused to come to play until I reset it. After which I just asked it to bring me home. Ending up with a boring motorway run instead of the run I had hoped for.

Only had the quest2 for a couple of weeks and so far unimpressed... but that could be m technical prowess

Did you have your waypoints set as via points? A similar thing happened to me on the German / Polish border, which I'd marked as a viapoint. After filling up at the first German petrol station (and I asked it to recalculate), the unit tried to direct me back on the other carriageway towards the border I had just ridden through 5 mins earlier. Luckily, I realised what it was doing while still on the slip road, so I could turn round, delete the viapoint and all was well again.

In your case, I would have just removed the via points from the first part of the route.

Yeah, you are right, but it's raining in the south of France right now, and the hotel has an internet connection... ...What can I say...

Besides, I'm testing 3 different GPSRs on this riding trip, and have to download new software builds about every second day... which means that since I'm connected anyway, I might as well have a peek at the forum...

So far, not too bad. I did read some of your comments prior to purchase, but got swayed by the hugh battery life and size of the unit.

The satellite lock does not appear to bad as yet, but the redraw id dismal. Indeed if in a metropolitan area I reckon I would be well past the alternative route before the thing had informed or drawn an alternative. Lucky for me I only really use it for long trips from a to B rather than around town.

Good advice on my problem though, thanks. Disappointed it doesnt sound like I can fix the issue on the move though.

Here is one solution that works on most, if not all, Garmin models including the Quest.

- Set Off-route Recalculate to OFF (or Prompted)
- Set AutoZoom to OFF
- Set Map Detail to MOST

Now when you are out riding you can at any time leave the route, or start from a point far away from the route. The route will remain unchanged and ready.

Use the zoom buttons to zoom out until you can see the route on the screen. Then follow the map on the screen until you hit the route. When you hit the route the GPS will automatically start giving driving instructions from where you hit the route and on.
