I am just about ready to remove both shocks (ESA) to have them sent away to be refurbished.
How do you increase the stability of the bike (other than a jack under the front of the engine) when both shocks are removed?
I had thought of removing the front shock first and then putting a solid bar (of the same length as the shock) back in place of the shock to aid stability, while waiting for the shocks to be returned.
Good idea?

As long as you've a bar with holes at each end to slot something through the bolt holes then that would be good. Must admit my main fear when doing this was the bike rolling off the centre stand so I used a luggage strap between the front wheel and the centre stand crossbar.

As long as there's a jack under the engine that should be enough - although if you're relying on a hydraulic jack for any period of time I'd consider using eg a block of wood and some axle stands or some other solid support under the engine just in case the jack leaks off.

I have used 25mm box section lash ups on pre LC bikes, the bike can be moved around while the shocks are having a refurb.
I do not have the dimensions for LC bikes.

MrC99.
The strap, wheel to stand. Great idea. I was worried about the bike rolling off the stand. Not any more. Many thanks.

Mistacat.
The bars that you used is almost exactly what I had thought of. So nice to have it confirmed. Many thanks.

When my rear shock was removed at dealers they had a rod which they put in so bike can be wheeled about. I believe it's a BMW tool so maybe ask to measure it if your nearest and dearest 'stealer' has one?
