I've found a seller offering some Kenwood TK-359 radios at a good price to finish up the bike to bike system I'm putting together, but they need programming. The seller is happy to program them with the prm frequencies for me before shipping but has asked if I want CTCSS on any of the channels and what frequency.

Could anyone advise me on this please, am I right in thinking that the CTCSS is related to the subchannels? It's 25 years since I did my old ham license and I've not been near a ham set in about the past 20. Be grateful for any help you can offer.

Edit: Further checking suggests there are 38 ctcss channels, so should I just pick 8 and pair them to the 8 pmr channels on both radios or is there a different way that they work.

Thanks in advance,

Justin.

theres info here with the frequency's used HERE

I also found the channels and ctcss freq for my Wintec A80 here

If you already have a radio it would be worth checking in it's documentation what freq they use, as I seem to remember that the first 25 where now standardised but after that there seems to be a bit of variance, I also have a wee thought bouncing about that Kenwood used the ctcss channels after 25 for there own digital ctcss, but I maybe wrong

Get them set to the UK default settings for a TK-3201 etc use.

If you can't easily reprogramme them, you should make sure that other people can switch to your setup.

There is some DOS-based software that you can get to reprogramme Kenwoods (search the net for a free download) but you also need the lead to interface the radio to your PC.

Thanks for all the help, I now have the details to set it up with the same 16 channels as the TK-3201.

I have the programming software now and will pick up a cable in case I need to add additional channels with different ctcss frequencies in the future.

Cheers,

Justin.

For anyone else wondering where to program pmr sets:

Channel Frequency (MHz)
1 446.00625
2 446.01875
3 446.03125
4 446.04375
5 446.05625
6 446.06875
7 446.08125
8 446.09375

Mirror the channel step for another 8 channels above this for digital use only......

Low power device frequencies to avoid if your radio is pre programmed for them:
