Question for anyone with Givi Trekker Panniers on their GS

I've recently bought a 1200GS TE which I intend to run alongside my Yamaha Super Tenere.

As my Yam has a full set of Givi Trekkers I put a Givi rack on the GS for the Top Box which I use on every ride.

I'm now considering buying the QD rails for the panniers but have noticed in the fitting instructions for the rails that the rear indicators are moved and a special bracket is provided. Studying the fitting diagram I cannot understand why Givi suggest this as the indicators appear to have a lot of clearance. See picture below.

If anyone has fitted these rails can you please inform me if the indicators really have to be moved and if so, WHY?

Hi Mike,I have them on my 2015 didn't have to remove the indicators or put a special bracket on. I have just come back from France and Spain camping along the way and used my kreiger bags on the frames, slightly adapted on the exhaust side with a plate I made up.

I have trekers on mine and did not move the indicators nothing fouls them, can only think the relocation is for better visability from the side.

I have exactly the same set up as you and you don't need to use the brackets, the indicators are fine where they are.

Ok here is the ting to clear up.

GS has shorter (front to back) indicator arms on the rear, if you use Givi, SW Motech, Touratech, even GSA metal luggage, the panniers will be that much longer than your standard Vario panniers that are meant to fit your GS. There fore your indicators will be hidden from other road users view if you are looking from the side of the bike. By fitting Givi Supplied brackets, you extend indicators to be inline with the back face of your panniers, aiding other road user in seeing your intentions to change direction of travel from their perspective, i.e. they are following you on a motorway in an adjacent lane but nearly at the side of you.

If you want better aesthetics, GSA rear indicators have longer arm and therefore requires no need to install givi supplied brackets.

Or if you own a gsa and want to make sure your led rear indicators do not get snapped off swap them for the better tucked in and shorter gs ones
