i am looking to add a extra set of driving lights on the wing , do they need to be switched or can they be on when you turn the key ,????? , i have the switch, just dont want to leave lights on by accident . any help would ne helpful, Geno
... a relay to activate them when your chosen light (dip or main) is selected; that way they'll switch off when your lights do. Otherwise it's flat battery time !
PM me an email address and I'll send you a simple wiring diagram showing how it works
Geno I tend to use the Sidelight as the "feed" for the relay and a switch as well
The sidelight as the feed cos the lights will only work when the sidelamps are on and the switch so that you can have the lamps on or off at your disgression?
Geno.....As Paul says, you can wire through the light circuit so that a relay is triggered to turn on the aux lights.....you can do this using sidelight feed (but legally you should have a switch inline as well so you can turn them off manually) or as theyre driving lights, you can wire the feed to the relay onto the main bean supply, so when you put main beam on, you get the aux lights too.....
The other alternative is an autoswitch (see nippy norm at top of page)
This uses a long push on the indicator cancel switch to trigger the lights.
it avoids the need for additional switches, but does involve a little more work to instal.
Have a look at THIS THREAD for an easy guide to installing an autoswitch
I'll dig out the wiring diagram that MikeO (IIRC ) did for two sets of lights...that's excellent.

The one thing i dont like about the Wing is that all lights come on when started , side ,and main ,which is 2 H4 , so would there be problem just connectting to these as i cant see a handy to get wires to battery for switch , wing is very covered in even when panels removed ,

Not a good idea taking the feed for conventional driving lights direct from the existing loom Geno, the loom won't be designed to take them and if your lucky you'll blow a fuse, or end up with a fire hazard.
Whether you switch it or not you'll need a relay fed direct from the battery.
