if i take the swing arm out ,and disconnect the four bolts to the gearbox ,can i then take out the four bolts ,in the final drive ,and take the swing arm completely off.
as i dont have a manual yet ,and the exploded drawings ive look at allways show the two apart.
as i really want to powder coat the swing arm . as its taken all afternoon to rub down the battery box to bare metal .more fiddly than difficult.
as im going to send the bits away to be powder coated ,id like the swing arm done as well..

obviuosly i would take the four bolts to the gear box out first ,before i took the swing arm out .

I just did this... but I think you need to do something special is you want to take the drive shaft out... unless its like one of those mensa chidlrens toys that my grandmother used to get me for Christmas... I obviously couldn't do it.

ok i get it now :thumb, ill take the swing arm off ,and the final drive ,but leave the shaft in ,mask it up ,paiint it ,job done

Right answer.:thumb2

I've done both. First one was stripped down and all powder coated. Second one was just repainted. You learn from your experiences (or you should do!).:) Can't tell the difference between the two.:(

As Sid says, I'd paint it with satin hammerite. Don't forget the replacement gasket between the swingarm and the final drive if you do separate them...and use stainless steel nuts ( try here for them... http://www.shawstainless.co.uk/ ) when re-assembling the final drive back to the swingarm :thumb2

... oh and we'll need pics as proof !! :D

Do we take it the bug has taken hold? Doesn't take long does it :D

I swapped my gearbox out at Gavin Bells in Romania just using the tools I had in under the seat. Lot to be said for airhead level tech.
