calling on your guys expertise ,when i stripped the final drive ,there was no gasket between the final drive ,and the shaft housing , looking at the motobins/motowerks website they sell a gasket for the final drive /shaft ,square gasket .
but mine didnt have one ,and when i looked on I MAX bmw diagrams or some thing similar ,there was no gasket shown .
so is there one or not ,if not should i be useing a silicon based gasket ,if so which one .
bere with me your earning your money here guys ,and theres a beer on me at the airhead wekend for all the effort youve put in for me ....dave

If there wasn't a gasket initially in there, then a small amount of silicone would suffice.
I have always used a gasket when putting it back together without any problems...I believe most owners fail to order this part and simply bung it back together maybe with a touch of silicone rather than wait a few more days just for the thin gasket ( and don't worrry, it won't cause any wobbles and come loose :D ).....at a massive £1.50 for the gasket, the decision is yours. :thumb2

You are asking a metal to metal joint to be oil tight.

It could be but chances are that it won't be.

A paper gasket is all it needs. Make one yourself using the age old technique of a bit of thin card (cereal box) placed over the face of the swing-arm and then using a ring spanner, lightly tap around the edges and it will cut to shape.

i have ordered the gasket ,allthough im not the brightest individual ,i thought ,there must be a gasket between the two surfaces, allthough ,mine didnt have one ,and didnt leak oil, i dont think it will do any harm , thanks guys ...

I've run them with and without the gaskets. just a smeer of gasket goo and they never seem to leak.
