Just fitted the Zumo 660 to my 2010 GSA with the optional BMW 3 wire
accsessory lead - attatched under oil cooler/Headstock..

Wired up to pins 1 (ground) and 3 (pos)

Should I be getting any indication on the zumo that the unit is being
charged/powered? At the minute I am getting no indication so don't know
whether it is just running off battery. Should the Zumo turn on automatically
when the bike is started?

Mine (2009 GS) turns on automatically when I turn the ignition on.

Turning the ignition off then gives me a "do you want to run off internal battery" message after around 30 seconds

2008, Behaves exactly as the above post. Another canbus querk, the socket retains power if the BMW alarm is switched on which means the satnav stays on too.

On mine when the unit is on bike power it will charge and you will not see a battery icon. If you see a battery then it is running on well battery. When you turn the bike off the Zumo will ask you if you want to keep it on or it will turn itself off after 1-2 minutes. HOWEVER if your Zumo is not fully charged the unit will tell the Canbus to keep power to the Zumo until it is charged. I have no idea why Garmin/BMW did this as it is pretty stupid. Not that Garmin draws too much power BUT if the Canbus is switched on it will keep everything else on the bike also live. So if you come back to a dead bike you will have a fully charged Sat Nav. The Zumo should turn automatically when you turn on the bike. Well worth going to Garmin and use Webupdater to make sure you have the latest Garmin updates. I found this out when I used the Garmin in the car and came home and came back in the Garage to find that everything was on 30 minutes later (aux spots) which are usually switched. Would not be very funny if you will were in the middle of nowhere...

Mine Zumo 550 also powers up when I switch on the ignition

Zumo loses bike power about a minute or so after switching the ignition off and a prompt comes on the Zumo asking if you want it to stay on using its internal battery, counts down 30 seconds and powers off unless you tell it otherwise.

Cheers all! :thumb

I had indeed wired it up wrong, but the Rudiemoto down at adventure bike warehouse very kindly sorted it for me.. Top, Top guys down there.. seriously, I'll be back. :thumb2
