Excuse my ignorance, but does anyway know if the Navigator (??) was the GPS unit that BMW sold as their "own" GPS system for their bikes ?

My GS1150 Adv (bought secondhand last August) has the wiring/plug and handlebar mounting for what the salesman thought was a Navigator but which the previous owner took off with him ..... unfortunately.

Rather than rewire and get a new mounting I'd rather find a decent low-cost 2nd hand Navigator if that is what I need.

Thanks.

Alex, the BMW Navigator is quite old now and hard to come by, the Navigator 2 is a slightly reworked Garmin Streetpilot 2610, IIRC the BMW Navigator 3 is a slightly reworked 2720 (someone will correct me here if I'm wrong).

My R1200GS came with the BMW handlebar mounting cradle but the previous owner kept the GPS unit. I found a used Navigator 2 on ebay which wasn't cheap, but works with the cradle buttons. A 2610 also fits into the cradle and works, but the mount buttons will not function. I haven't tried a Nav 3 as they weren't available when I bought my bike and GPS.

If you get a used GPS unit (either as a Garmin or BMW model) note that Garmin (who are the point of contact for both types of unit) may choose not to assist you because of their second-user policy so "caveat emptor". I met some difficulty with one garmin rep, then tried again later and a different rep couldn't have been more helpful, even sending me new software disks and an unlock code and re-registering the unit in my name.

Thanks guys.

Very helpful replies. I guess I might consider a Zumo 550 and, as they say "go the full hog".

Technology moves fast, dosen't it ? One day a Garmin 2610 is the deebees, and within 24 - 36 months it's old socks.
