Question to the moderators

1200 section just seems to be where 1200 owners post whether its really a bike problem or not. I have dropped my 1200, I dont mind so much. I know it isn't technical but I kinda see the thinking of they only want to post to other 1200 owners rightly or wrongly. Ultimately is it bike related though. The retort of I have dropped my washing though is obviously just a piss take and should only be in the B&B unless of course its the bike cover washing that was dropped :D If it was my forum I would have a technical and a general section for each model. Only technical stuff allowed and no bike runs or anything like that unless its in general. General needs to involve a bike of that section but can be about anything. Keep B&B for all the other drivel. Other option is simply drop the technical part and let anything model related go in the one place. Its a tough call though. I mod on a couple of forums and so long as it isnt totally out of it tend to let things slide. I would rather that than the XDA forums Iron Fist rules where if you even think about posting in the wrong place they put you on a holiday.
As for the newbie questions, I suppose there is no such thing as a stupid question but it does wear you down when you see the same questions time again because they haven't searched. A lot of people are even trying to cover their ass with "I searched but couldn't find" Bollox, no you didn't search, generally what your asking comes up in the first couple of results. I use a forum called Spiceworks, its for IT professionals (no public looking for answers to dumb questions) when you post a new topic it actually does a search for you related to your text and gives you a few answers before posting. Only after that can you finally post. It works really well and would be great if it could be incorporated into the forum. Sadly though the forum is a one off written by the owners so probably doesn't exist for any other platforms.

Ultimately though, feck knows. The forum works well and 99.99% of the time is a friendly place to be. Read what you want and ignore what you don't. Life is too short and if someone fills the tank from the front while wearing stilts and a gimp suit, let them be :beerjug:

I'll take your word for it as i rarely look in there.

But i have noticed random non technical postings creeping into the 1100/1150recently.

Keeping it in context

Its possibly not a perfect forum, nor is it bloody useless - there has been countless times where I have benefitted from sound genuine advice to compensate for the washing line posts (but some humour in moderation does help).

With all that said, does it really matter?

I know we are all after that `utopia` in everything we do, eat, see or attend but, really guys, does it really matter!

Perhaps I have a jaded view as my life is spent bouncing off walls dealing with real issues. Indeed, the forum is a place to escape, let my hair down (if I had any) amongst a `loose fraternity` of guys who still pull over to help me if I have a flat tyre.

lets not loose sight of that nor get too an*l about it - life is to short!

And all of this is only in my humble opinion.
 
Blimey I hadn't expected to many replies since lunchtime.

I do agree that there are plenty of useful threads and I would not want to compromise those. I also agree that sometimes you can't tell something serious from the 'jokes', but when you get a newby asking a slightly silly question and then an old hand starts a blatant piss taking thread the next day then I think that's a fairly easy cut to make.

It would seem that I'm not in the minority - so are the mods going to publish a new set of guidelines before moving threads out to B&B?

Nope.

From what I've read the opinions are quite balanced at the moment.

I do agree that we could lose the blatant shite though, but I'm not convinced moving to the B&B would be good. Nor do I think deleting it would be good.

As an aside to Steptoe's observation vis-a-vis the 1200 owning numpty's: 'Shall-I-shan't-I-remove-my-panniers-at-night-when-staying-in-a-hotel-in-foreign-lands?' * . I have seen the bike everyday, one pannier removed. It's rather amused me.

If the bod would only buy a 1200 (it's a very shiny 1150, but the rear tyre is squared-off quite badly) and still perform the same trick each day, I'll gladly take another picture. Though I may post it in the 'Big boys' play area, with some cheery observation on the indecisivness of 1200 owners.

PS I'm surprised nobody has been along with a rebuke for showing the bike's number plate.... in case it's cloned by unscrupulous Mafiosi, or some such bollocks. It's parked in the same place every day - exploiting a gap in the yellow lines / on-pavement parking - a location first discovered by a scooter rider, of all people. Just goes to show how easy it is to find a nice bike to pinch....

:bounce1 Excellent. Away all day to find this fun-time going on. What have I been doing? Looking up the the skirts of a 1200 and actually allowed to change a part on another, and offer an unseen solution to another failed assembley.
I'm definitely guilty of poking fun around here but only when it's deserved IMHO but, I have provided fixes to faults very recently and in the past, even though I'm working from first principles on a bike with complex systems which I'm not familiar with.

What's not good within this section is the "I'm Here" question or statement which instigates the use of the :blast smiley and induces the piss taking. There have been a few daft questions within other Tech sections too in the recent past but they don't seem to recieve the same offers of help from elsewhere. :nenau

I reckon the cure could be "think before you click" (I wish I did this more often). Also, it IS a forum whereby statements made in days of yore, before Mod' Delete Butons, would have been heard by everybody and therefore undeletable.
 
One way to prevent it would be to just have different sections for each model, eg have a 1200 section with a technical section, general section etc etc. That way if you wanted tech info for a 1200 you could go to the tech section, and if you wanted to talk random 1200 stuff with other 1200 members you could go to the general 1200 section :nenau

Maybe that would keep some of the 1150 trolls away :augie
