Took the Airhead for a nice little blast this evening - It's such a lovely bike, it handles really well and belts up to 85MPH on a wave of short shifting torque.

Completely different to the HP2 but as much fun...

see ... all the discussion in the LC section about bikes being better versus soul and character ... I get why you enjoy that bike! If I had room in the garage, something like that would be just the ticket .. :thumb2

I didn't realise till I got home after 90 mins how comfy the new saddle was... The old one was was a hard old thing and had you shifting around and standing on the pegs.

AR Pound in Baldock recovered it and put in memory foam and a gel pad - Top job

I also enjoy riding my old Airhead as much as I did riding the HP2 :beerjug:

I sold the 1200GS because when it came down to a choice for a fun ride, the R90/6 won nearly every time and I couldn't really justify keeping both. I do miss the GS for long distance practicality though and want another one now .......

...I say, thats one hell of a sidestand...do you carry it all the time...

Thats not a side stand that's the latest in portable camping stoves - It's a Swedish log candle

I'm doing a special offer on them at the moment £89.99 or £289.99 if you want the version designed for the LC GS.

Just Paypal me the money and I will arrange for you to pick up at your local woods

Is the engine stock or tricked?

Am interested to hear more about the comparison with the HP2....

Blue Printed
1000cc conversion
High Torque cam
Richie Moore Airfilter

it's a very diffrent engine to the HP2 it's all very low down and runs out of breath early so you ride it by short shifiting.

It's got a quick action throttle so all the torque is just a quick flick of the wrist away so you make progress in a very diffrent way.

It's got fantastic traction off road beacuse it feels as though you can feed in each thump.

The HP2 has got loads at the top (esspecially mine which is based on a MM) and also far more than the Airhead low down but it's so smooth and effective that it can spin up when you dont want it to.

If yiou want a comparison of an Airhead approaching HP2 type power you need Richie Moore who builds some amazing Airhead motors http://www.moorespeed.co.uk/bmw-engine

His latest 1080cc sidecar racing engines are producing 124BHP at the crank!

That's more that the MM but it will spit and fart below 2000 rpm!

..Is the engine ....

..it's a very diffrent engine to ....

I've seen Wreford's bike off road at Bagshot, and have to say it sounds gorgeous. You can really hear each crackley bang of ignition. If trousers half cocked and pants showing is the new LC, then this bike sums up everything that is good (and difficult to describe) about airheads. Might look a bit tatty (:P) but definitely the very sort of bike the German engineers in the LC pro-mo video would have tucked away in their garage.
