My 2000 GS came with a set of BMW Touring panniers that had definitely seen better days but thankfully the locks and hinges worked.
Seeing I had nothing to loose I set to with some builders bog and soon had all the holes and gouges filled and after attacking it with the palm sander they were not looking too bad.
I got a can of car bumper bar spray paint and read the instructions which meant a quick sand down with 400 grit sandpaper and a wipe with a tack cloth. Then a quick masking of locks and badges and they are ready for painting which historically I am no good at.
So one can of paint later and I am right chuffed with the results. While they are by no means 'as new' they certainly pass the tried and true squint test and have a nice matt black slightly textured surface.
Not bad for an afternoons work.
