Jumped on the bike this morning, started the engine, looked down towards my right foot and saw petrol squirting out of the above!!!

I disconnocted the offending connector, cleaned it up and re-connected it.

Petrol still pi***d out of it!!

Do I replace the whole connector or just the 'O' rings?

Was this a re-call item?

Any other thoughts?

just the O rings.
i got mine from BMW and a couple of spares. :thumb

Same happened on mine, if you have plastic connectors, they are now stainless, mine was recovered and they replaced the connector with the new stainless ones.
The plastic one had basically snapped or cracked, no o rings were going to fix it, you could probably do it yourself if you have the proper crimp tools.

:ChrisKellygot rid of mine (2003 gsa) apart from the balance pipe connector, and just carry clamps in my tool kit, less to go wrong:ChrisKelly

If it's leaked without you touching it it'll be the metal crimps that hold the Q/D's in place. Crimp them up tighter with a pair of grips.

It's a known problem, and BMW did a recall some years ago but it still happens now and again.

Same thing has just happened to my GS Adv (twin spark 03)...it is the quick release plastic insert that has broken. She was parked up and has poured petrol all over everything...I came back to the bike and it was surrounded by a large puddle of petrol.:mmmm The staining is the least of my worries....getting mobile again is the most pressing one. Finding a piece of copper pipe and some clamps seems to be my best bet for now.

If this was meant to be a recall item I shall not be best pleased - it has been back for various recalls over the years and this has been either overlooked, or not flagged up at all. The plastic has just given up the ghost. Some stainless replacements will be sourced.:(

O rings - very easy to catch them in the quick release connector and cause a leak.

Stolzy - not if the bike is working perfectly, you ark it and come back to find 1/2 a tank of fuel all over the floor! It was fine, the QD link just gave up the ghost while I was otherwise engaged...taking pictures. The plastic section has sheared off. Maybe I caught it as I dismounted, but it is tucked in tight, so I doubt it. Just fatigue over the years I would think.

Thanks Steptoe...I have yet to go back and collect the bike though. That's my weekend bu**ered. I might just squeal for the recovery team....I want to watch the rugger.
