I tested the GS1300 today. I was impressed,…. So so nimble for a big bike, v impressed!

Ive had 2 GS1200, & 1250, all factory lowered but it felt a really nice ride.
Presently on a KTM890 Adventure & wanting to go back to the GS.

Whilst may things were better than the KTM, what appeared to be shite was the quickshifter - on occasions it was a nice easy click other times a massive clunk.
It felt a sweet spot was, changing up, 3500 revs above.

So, what revs are good - how do you get it to ‘Nick in’ vs clunk?

Forget 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 only when hard acceleration well above 4k revs. 4-5 and 5-6 are where it's happiest, 4k rpm and preferable higher. Remember this is not meant to be an automatic shift, it's best when hard on the throttle and high rpm

I have a 2025 XR along with a 1300 GS, after riding the XR which has a sublime gearbox you realise how poor the gearbox and quick shifter is on the GS,I rarely use it now.The quick shifter that is !
Having said that it'll be the GS going to the Alps and the Dolomites in a few weeks.🙂

Agreed... for me... >5k revs with throttle fully open. As you say 4-5 and 5-6 are great... but 3-4 and below is a bit too agricultural for me. Downshifts are great though... all the way down to 3rd.

1 to 2 is too jerky on mine, but the rest are fine, regardless of revs, provided I'm accelerating. I was getting false neutrals between 5 and 6, but adjusting the shift lever further down has almost completely resolved that. I will lower it another 1/2 turn and think that should completely fix it.

That's the problem for me, in normal riding I'm seldom hard on the throttle at high rpm and am typically adding a little throttle as I downshift up a grade so a quick shifter just gets in the way for me most of the time. To get smooth, quick, traditional, shifts I preload the shifter but on this bike that activates the QS. What I've been doing is before preloading the shifter first pull the clutch just a bit to "turn off" the QS, then preload, then pull in the clutch part way while lifting the shifter. It works but it's a little cumbersome. Maybe I should quit preloading the shifter on this bike and just pull in clutch, lift or push to the next gear, release clutch.

The Boxer engine had a ‘shift assist’ not a quickshifter.
Comparing the engine with IL4, V4 and triples are not really equivalents.
WOT on the way up, clamped shut on the way down. Don’t bother going up between 1-2.
