Not lookin to kick a hornets nest :eek, But.

Ive a choice of Tourance, Which Ive never used. Or Continental Trail Attacks, Which i have on at the moment.

The contis I`m finding great, Loads of grip, Quite capable of touching my boots down.

But Will the tourance allow this, Or give me more mileage to a set?

Im also open to other recomendations, Around the same Price tho, About £150 a set.

Cheers All

Pete

I have had conti trail attack for the last 24k. great tyre as you say. Just got a new front and it is a trail attak 2. Turns in much quicker, and also follows any tracks in the surface quite aggressively. I preferred my old attack front tyre. If they are still available? Mine was a free swap due to the usual wobble at 40. If I had a choice, I would revert to the old trail attak and not the new version

Had the Trail Attacks on my GSA from new and found them brilliant on-road. Off-road (even very light, non-muddy stuff) they were still as brilliant as any other road tyre...

However, once they were more than about half-worn, the road performance dropped off markedly and, while they never let me down, they always felt insecure and felt especially skittish over white lines and overbanding. But I stress that they never actually let me down.

I've since switched to Dunlop TR91 Trailmax and haven't had any issues with them at all even when worn down to the wear-bars. My off-road experience with them has been much the same as with the TAs. Tell a lie - I did have an issue with one rear TR91 that appeared to defy all attempts to balance it properly. It was replaced by Dunlop under warranty.

If I was to be totally honest with myself, I would probably forget all the road-tyres-pretending-to-be-trail-tyres and simply fit a set of Michelin PR3s. But I'm not, and I like the ruffy-tuffy look of the Dunlops so Ner... :P

The biggest difference that I've found between Tourances and Trail-Attacks is that the rear Tourance squares off quite badly towards the end of its life, the Trail-Attack doesn't.

Difficult to separate in most other respects - Tourance may just have the edge on a muddy track, but as I don't do any serious off-road stuff, I'm not best placed to comment on that aspect.

Only ever used Tourances, got through about 8 pairs, never found them wanting in general riding. They are a good tyre.

Okay on gravel tracks, pretty shite on wet mud or clay like many similar tyres, where TKC80 or similar are essential.

I had tourances, didn't like them at all, fitted Michelin PR4s much happier. I've got a spare pair of wheels that I'll put knobblies on for the occasional time off road.

My cracked rib says that a used Tourance is crap on a mud strewn back lane. TBH anything less than TKCs are crap on slippery muddy stuff.

@Raymondo makes an interesting point about Trail Attacks - I had a similar issue with Road Attacks but not on a GS. The previously great handling fell off a cliff at around 65% worn.

+1 Michelin PR4 Trails, just escorted a cycle race on county lanes in heavy rain with some very poor road surfaces, stuck to the road like glue. Friends on Angel GT's and Anakee 3's had a few interesting moments, PR4's felt like riding on a dry road surface. Of course if you are doing some off road exploring no matter how little get Anakee's.
