Quiet helmet?

I've just cut down my gs screen and got rid of all the buffeting, however both my multitech and system 5 helmets are really quite noisy (even with ear plugs) in the smoothed out airflow. I'm looking to buy a helmet that is not overly expensive but has good aerodynamics and that is quiet(ish), any suggestions?

Good aerodynamics? Blimey, even Moto GP riders do not get that carried away (often). Try putting gaffer tape over the vents, visor edges etc. that will help.

Try an Arai but it's not a flip front, whilst your others are. Either way, you need a helmet that suits you head, not another's......

Cheaper option would possibly be to get some better quality ear plugs..... or leave it in the garage

Wapping makes a good point though, in that helmet/fit/noise/screen is an individual thing and there are too many variables to make a recommendation.

I've tried alpine ear plugs, foam and total block beeswax. The helmets to transmit the noise through my skull I have been thinking about an open face, I wore them for years in times past. I think the trouble with the flip fronts are that there are too many joins and edges turning it into some sort of wind instrument that one can wear on ones head, maybe a tuba anyway keep the suggestions coming.

Quietest helmet I've ever owned. I always get a shock with how noisy the Shoei is when I go back to it from time to time, and I used to think that was ok.
Schuberth C3 flip front is supposed to be good too.

I had read that, but I find that my BMW Ststem 6 is pretty good and I think it is much cheaper than the Schubert.

I think 2 flip fronts maybe enough, I might be going from frying pan into the frying pan so to speak.

I have a Shoei XR1000 - quiet it is not! I know Shoei sell a thing called a "whisper strip" which is a skirt that wraps around the bottom of the lid. This is supposed to make things a lot quieter?
Seems every new lid I buy is noisier than the last I now just ride with earplugs & with the screen in it's lowest position, as I find the buffeting more annoying than the noise

I'm sure lids were quieter years back, when they didn't end at your chin - does anyone else feel the same?

Now that is another subject !

"......its too hot for summer use." At the moment temperatures here are around 30°c and ALL helmets are oo hot to wear - whatever type. The cyclists' helmets seem to be better cooled and I suppose it is surprising that something similar is not available for motor cycling; How are they for noise at speed? Anybody brave/stupid/hard up enough to have tried?

Agreed, but much better ventilated than the original S1 which was very stuffy in 37 degree temperatures in the Dirdogne on the wy to the Pyrenees in 2007

Schuberth S1. Quitest helmet I've ever owned.
Brilliant in the UK but struggled with it in Spain in the heat.

Can't have it all I guess...........or can you?

Schuberth C3 is very quiet, but I found the seatbelt style chin strap very uncomfortable, and the ventilation is poor meaning it's very very hot. Also, Schuberths have quite a deep bottom to the helmet which makes lifesavers a bit of a nuiscance sometimes as the helmet cathes your jacket.
I've now got the Shoei XR1100 which is quiet, although not quite as quiet as the C3, but has fantastic ventilation. I think you can get a mono coloured one for around the £300 mark. Alternatively look at the predecesor, the XR1000 as you can get them very cheap now.
