As i posted in post 11 - An american guy has found a problem with the boxes - Got it.... Not me :blast, an american guy, i think on the ADV rider forum.

I'm an ex dealership technician and fully intend to do the rebuild myself

I've got a later M95 box and intend using it to stand in for my M93 (best ratios)

Then I'll rebuild the M93 over a couple of winter nights

At the minute I'm sort of dickying up an adventure in my garage actually I'm near enough restoring the bloody thing cos my mate (the owner) can't be 4rsed to wash it so I'm gonna be spraying forks lowers, fork bridge, front wishbone, engine casings and all sorts of things in the next while!

So many Oilheads so little time!!!

Something else to be aware of if you change a box the later M97, uses a different final drive ratio so if ya fit a later box you screw up ya speedo and mileage!

my bike is driven from the front wheel so how can the speedo be affected??

Sorry Misrepresentation on my part (too much working on old boxers and Bricks)

If you use a later gearbox with an earlier final drive your rpm to MPH is changed so you rev harder to achieve the same speed i.e. lower gear ratios throughout the range

Sorry about that

ok ta 4 clearing that up , is there a way of equelising the final drive on the earlier moddel to match the later gear box. ie can the ratio on the final drive be modified ? spellin crap but you get me drift..

EAsy way just change the early 34:11 ratio final drive to the later type 31:11 No messin then. Just check the ABS rings are the same type
