R 1200 GSA - removing headlight help ?

During what was planned to be "routine" low beam light bulb change, entire reflector for both lights went out of it's position and now is impossible to use adjustment lever/knob as entire reflector moving up/down and left/right. And both beams are very high.

Any idea how fastest disassembly headlights body without removing windshield and half of the bike, so I can fix what;s wrong inside.

You can get away with tilting the screen by taking two front bolts of screen out but you run the risk of scratching the screen. Takes about 10 minutes to remove properly. Remove screen (two nuts on side handles on screen and front screws). Unplug speedo, power and side light. Remove two screws T30 on side and it comes out as one piece. Then lens screws. Inside the bulb holder the clips are quite fragile. I managed to break one of mine yesterday by looking at it the wrong way. Good luck.

hi there,i had the same problem too.tryed to put my finger inside the headlamp and tryed to tilt up the reflector inside but headlight still high..what shall I do? any idea? many thanks.

Thanks to NorthLondonCookie I successfully removed headlight, and remove spedoo and all was over for really not more then 10 minutes.

But, inside the headlight case, system for adjusting height of the beams, consisting of one white ball linked to reflector, and another one linked for spring and knob/lever for adjusting, and these two were somehow disconnected and entire reflector is not firmly fixed, moving beams up and down.

Space for work inside case almost doesn't exist, and it's hardly visible.

Looks like only way to fix it is to remove front glass what looks to me like a dangerous and risky operation as it's sealed, and I gave up on that.

Any ideas, anybody has any photos/scheme/link how it looks inside and how to fix it ?

Happened to me a few years ago in my first R1200GS. I managed to get them back together by hand. Take out the bulbs then put 2 fingers through the hole for the main beam, make sure the ball and socket and socket are aligned then firmly pull them together. Mine clicked back in and stayed there for the next 60,000 miles. I rode that bike round Morocco on a Moto Morocco tour, and daily until I sold it, without any more problems. They may still be connected now, for all I know...

I believe they have a quality control issue with the headlamp suppliers, units supplied incorrectly assembled; which then separate when a small amount of pressure is applied. Mostly when a bulb is replaced. My second GSA has had no such problem at all, despite going through a large number of bulbs.
