now then lads
i seem to be having a problem wiyh r i d ,whats happening is sometimes when i change down to second an then to first the r i d is registering 0 , the correct gears are being selected its just not showing correct, and then on the way back up the box it shows as normal. anything to bother about or not...

I had the same problm with mine. If you want it fixed then it will set you back £100 plus for the potentiometer gear switch, then the labour (rear sub frame needs to come off).

It seems that many bikes have this problem at some point. Only needs fixing if you really cannot remember what gear you are in !! (hence the LCD RID display).

Spoke to Mike at Cardiff Motorrad to get the price for the potentiometer. His labour costs are £35.00 per hour. The switch labour would equate to 2 or 3 hours work.

Oh no it doesn't.

To the original poster of the question -is your bike an 1100 or 1150 - they are different switches, the 1100 has a separate neutral/gear indicator switch, the 1150 has a single switch.

Mine is also suffering with this problem but can i be bothered to fix it?:nenau not really.

Pretty simple job to sort. The switch (back of the gearbox) is around £40 from sherlocks etc. As I have no bike lift, I found it a bit fiddly to use pliers. Instead I used a tyrap/ziptie to compress the clip that holds it on, then carefully levered the switch out. To totally remove the switch and cable, I found it best to take the tank and starter motor cover off. The other end of the cable attaches near the headstock. Make a note of the routing for the cable. You can partly strip the switch by prising back the rubber boot and using a contact cleaner. Mine had green crusty corrosion inside. In hindsight, I didnt need a new switch at all, as it cleaned up a treat and has been working fine ever since.
This is for an 1150 with a y-piece fitted. If you still have the cat, it may be more awkard to do?

Mine says 3 sometimes :augie and its right then, my old Suzuki Gs used to say 8 all the time, now thats progress.
