Sad to post that Roy at Southport Superbikes passed away a couple of days ago, I just got a text off a mate and only just found out.

A large funeral, open to all is planned date/time TBC.

Shame, top bloke. He will be missed.

:comfort

I am so saddened to hear that, Roy was a really nice bloke, he will certainly be missed by all who knew him well or, like me, just spoke with him a couple of times a year when the bike was in for a service.

Condolences to his family and all those close to him.

Bob

Shocker! What a cracking guy. He gave me a route around Southport to do some test rides and even gave a stop off point for a brew halfway round (just tell them Roy sent you and they'll look after you).

Sad loss to the NW and the world of motorcycling.

An OK feller - sad news indeed

Let us know any funeral arrangements please

Roy

I first met Roy in 1999, we become friends quickly, for me Roy was old school. A legend.
Outside work I was lucky enough to ride many miles with him, he was an excellent rider making progress as the opportunity arose. I will remember when ever we stopped for a brew, he always hung the crash helmet from the off side peg.
Being ex Scots Guard, he was passionate about our forces and supported them through his membership of Preston Branch. I was lucky enough to be invited along with many of his Friends to the Annual Dinner in November. We had a great night.
Inside work, His welcome to the shop made you feel more than a Customer, you were visiting your mates home. He was a big man, but his personality was bigger. He never tried to sell me a bike, though I bought many.
It is true that the folks at Southport are a Family and for me Roy was the Dad. Right now they must be hurting. As bikers we stick together and help each other out, in their darkest hour, we need to pull together. Pop in to the shop, share a story and tell them it will be ok.

Roy, we will miss you, but we will never forget you. Xxx

Paul

Roy was a top bloke :beerjug:- nothing was too much trouble for him, a true gent who made you welcome every time you came through the door.

I'll miss that banter when going to see SSB.

So Sorry to hear this sad news.

I am in the shop tomorrow for a service
my condolences go out to his family

R.I.P Roy

I didn't know you long, but you were a proper gentleman

RIP Roy

Very sad to read that Roy has passed away. I would agree with what others have said Roy was a gentleman, and I remember him fondly and the warm welcome when I first visited Southport Superbikes.
Condolences to Roys family, and to Mike at Southport Superbikes

Was Roy the elderly gent (but still apparently, a regular rider) who was an owner/part owner of Southport Superbikes?
Or am I getting him confused (Apologies to anyone if I’m mistaken)

I bought my first GS off Roy and I don't believe anyone could have been more helpful. So much so that if it wasn't for him I wouldn't of bought one.

He let me test ride everything then when I narrowed the choice down to a GS or a GSA he took me out, he rode one and I rode the other, after an hour we stopped for lunch which he bought then swapped bikes and road back.

Whenever I have been in to the shop he has always been there with a handshake and a smile.
He is such a loss to motorcycling and southport superbikes.

He will be sadly missed.
