Hi all,

I was drooling over GS bikes online last night, wishing I had the spare cash to buy one when a little thought wormed it's way into my head... what would it take to GSify my R?

So, I have an 850r sitting there, what would I need to to change to make a frankenGS...

Obvious things seem to be front forks and rear suspension/paralever changes. Would the bearbox need changing? The bevel box?

This is nothing more than mental exercise for personal amusement, but I'd appreicate any comments.

Cheers

Matt

stick it on ebay quick and buy yourself a proper one.

probably worthwhile joining and paying the £12 for access to the 'for sale section' and ability to send pvt messages.

Im not sure how feasible (or cost effective) it is to 'convert' an R... I'm sure you'll get an in depth answer before long though. :thumb

Had i known this was in the back of your mind you could've had a likkle test ride on my old tractor at the 'goat' - maybe next time.

Well, the GS was the bike I was originally after, but the R was a better price.

As I said, it's more a mental excersie, I know the time, hassle and cost of bits would be more than buying a GS, but where's the fun in taking the easy way ;)

Wierd eh??!!.......I turned my GS into an R......:P

Had a 1150GS......Traded for a 1200GS......Sold the 1200, and bought
a R850R.....Needed something lower/lighter/more manageable etc........Got an absolute 'minter'.....nice 'bike, but I miss the power, and errrr....everything else........;)...

Moral of the story......'Be careful what you wish for'........:D

BMW R1150GS Reg HY52UUO......Where are you now?...........:blast

lol, that's the way it goes, you don't reliase what you have got until you don't have it anymore... Guess I could sell a kidney and keep the R and get a GS to :)

Front and rear shocks, torque arm, and stands should get you started. Oil coolers are a problem if you want to fit a gs tank but can be moved.

R1150 Ubermoto

Found this in a folder of bike pics, no idea where I got it frm but think it looks cool.

I "GS" ified My R1100RS and affectionately call it the GRrrrrrr as in Frosties Tony "Gurrr"

Anyway the pitfalls are the suspension and wheel sizes I can do some lanes but the suspension travel is way too short and the tyre choices are crap although I changed to a 17 inch rear and had loadsa fun with Distanzias :aidan

As the folks say move her on and buy a genuine for yourself

OR I'll sell ya the Gurr with all the mods:- including,,, on the move switchable ABS and sidestand wiring mod and low voltage ABS mod Overhauled gearbox K&N, GS intake tubes, Remus inc Stubby and all the original stuff to turn it back to an RS Well everything except the Big top Box it's going on me Project 100GS :aidan
