Rough guess - bloody difficult.
Perhaps possible in an emergency (preferably with some strong mates to push you) but on your own I wouldn't like to depend on bump starting.

I'd try to hot wire the start circuit.

if yer start button int working I would make super sure that yer plugs are sparking when the igntion is on - also how are you going to stop it
Does your stop or ignition switch still work = on and off
If it does
Short a big wire to the starter from battery and disconect when it fires up

Hi I have a r100/7 and had problems with starting it turned out to be the relay under the tank. I tought it was the switch but just the relay.JJH

the problem with the bike is that it was hot wired so i have be trying to fix the wire the kill switch i think works but my rear light does not and the head light horn work the start button did work but now when u hit the button there is nothing ? plus as there is a hill just along from my house i was going to try bump starting it on that :(

how do i check if the starter relay is dead? does the head light relay have any thing to do with the rear light / stop light and would it cause it to stop working as the fuses are ok and all the wire are ok at the back

The relay only needs four wires to function, but it has more terminals than that.

The other wires are a feed to components at the rear of the bike which needs switched power, so the answer could be yes.

There are two starter relays around , so make certain that you get the correct one - DAMHIK .
Bosch 0332 019 151 doesn't work at all on a 86 G/S even though some sites list it as the one.

Got two new unused ones on my desk right now----.

i will call motor works and see if they have on as i think the starter relay is about 8pounds the headlight relay is a bit more than that as if i put two new ones on i hope it be sorted
thanks for ur help

They will bump start but it is a bit of a push unless you can get down hill.
I remember getting a few of the lads at Northwich nick to push me when mine wouldnt fire, about three times round the station with three or four sweating bobbies after the night shift and I saw that the kill switch had been turned off. Never did tell them........ Just one more go chaps.... oh yes she fired :augie

Ps, I know this helps you not one bit:blast

Hi

When I went to visit family in Berlin on my 100/7 back in 1980 the battery went flat whilst standing.

Bearing in mind I was younger and fitter, it still took three of us before the thing would start.

Good luck but I wouldn't fancy trying it now.

you dont have to buy one in Motorworks - much as I admire them- you can get a relay in a good auto electrical shop jusst bring the old one. There was a post on here about relays reciently there like bulbs once its the right one it dosent have to say BMW on the box. Hope it sorts you out. JJH

is the head light relay the one in side the headlight by the key ?

I,m not sure. U realy need to test them. It would be hard for me to guide you from a distance but if you follow the little diagram on the relay you should be able to bridge out the correct terminals and hear the relay click. For me its a hit and miss job but I can usualy muddle trough. It took me 2 weeks to sort out my own problem and that included getting the starter reconditioned. JJH
