R100 Gs PD - Charging advice - Help..😟

I'll have an almost new M-Shock for sale (from my GS PD) very soon, if you want that.
Sorry Robert an Advert separated the thread and I did not see your message
I love this forum (maybe should have asked first) but I’ve got the bike to Mikeyboy and he ordered me a HyperPro last week, very much appreciate your kind gestures 🙏

Changing a bulb once every 30 years doesn't sound too bad to me? I put LEDs in the dash bulbs (not the GEN) and now I have spare GEN bulbs... Tough luck on the shock.

A couple of weeks ago I broke down quite suddenly, just after braking and indicating to turn right.

The bike cut out and stopped, the symptoms thereafter were of a completely dead battery, I assumed the last brake and indicate was the final draw on the electrical system.

I managed to start the bike being pushed by two strong men and limped home, I bought a new battery and was back in business.

However, after a few hours riding, I couldn’t restart the bike after a lunch break.

Recovered to a recommended local mechanic who called me a few days later, and said it’s not the regulator or rectifier which is the usual assumption as I’d fitted a brand new battery, but something to do with a bulb ( I think he said generator bulb) in the small dash.

He said the good news is that the bulb is about a £1.50 but he warns me it’s looking like the front of the bike has to be dismantled to get to it and his Labour Charge might be quite substantial to do the job.

Does this make sense to those that might know better than me.. :nenau
Well I'm blown away. Ever days a school day.

It's almost never the bulb that's the problem though.
But when it is, it’s a pain, as no charging.
I replaced the unit with a Katdash led system….so have a set of the original bulbs and the holder if anyone has to have “original” equipment rather than an upgrade. Fits the basic and g/s and early GS models ( without the fairing)

Pm me if anyone wants to buy it.

You can replace the standard bulb with something called a 'katdash' which has LEDs and eliminates the problem of a failed bulb stopping the charging system working. Not a cheap solution though. Motorworks sell them

No it doesn't - see Katdash website screenshot:

That's odd. On the version of Katdash that I fitted to my R60/6 and my R80GS Basic the Katdash replaces everything and you do not keep any incandescent bulbs. Looking at the Katdash website for the later version of GS it's not a replacement circuitboard, just a bulb holder basically. Oh hum

Mine too…… just replaced the whole lot as one unit…. Complete with the correct resistor to the gen light.
Plug n play…. Simples ( tho not cheap)

With the GS it is a different Katdash story, I'm afraid. But my other bulbs are nice and bright and, as I mentioned before, I have a load of spare generator bulbs as a result.

For the /6 installation Katdash says, "The GEN light circuit is specifically designed to have enough current passing to energise the alternator and start up the charging system..."
