R100GS 1988 Steering Head Thread - Size/Pitch?

Can anyone tell me the size and pitch of the steering stem top thread? Current project seems to have been damaged on removal (suspected judicious use of sledgehammer) and the top nut wont tighten down past a few turns, and the adjuster nut wont start on the thread at all. Likely going to need a big die to sort it.

thanks ian, ordered a thread file a few days ago. will see if it sorts the issue.

The tread is M28 x 1.5.
It is a shame that you are so far away as it would only take a minute to run a die down it.
If you are still having problems with it and need a die running down the thread consider postage as a back up plan.
