Hi all,

Does anybody know where I can get my speedo serviced as odometer stopped working & rubber cap perished (have replacement)

Many thanks..

Have stripped mine down myself , not hard to do.
The tripmeter will probably stopped working because the drive pin has seized into the plastic surround it is held in.
If it has stopped completely the surround has probably snapped off the main body.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to sort out a replacement part.

Any guidelines on how to strip..

Many thanks

I tried to strip mine, but simply cannot see how to undo the cup from the speedo; as the speedo seemed pressed sealed. Next question is how do we seal it back properly again?

Subscribed ....

Cheers

Dear all,

Beware... mangled mine at the back beyond reasonable repair trying to get the back off....:censor:

Now placed an order with Motorworks for a new one approx £200!..:(

Regards,

At least they are available, unlike the item for the mono!

Again a bit tedious, but by working slowly and carefully I was able to get the bezel set evenly with only a few little lumps around the outside. These I smoothed out with the drift, finishing by recrimping the underside of the bezel. The result was surprisingly good, considering the violence that the bezel had seen. No paint was missing, there was a little unevenness, but you had to really look closely to see it. Best of all, when the clock dropped back into the fairing hole, it looked factory new.

To check function I mounted a small burr into the 3 jaw chuck on the lathe and used it to spin the speedo (the chuck had to be set to turn in reverse). At top speed it was reading a nice steady 70 mph, and the odometer numbers clicked over nicely as well. Hmmmm, maybe I didn't need a new speedo after all! But then again the rubber has been missing from the odometer reset* for quite a while, and there's a nasty scratch in the lens, so I went ahead and performed the same operation on the new clock. It was much easier (and somewhat faster) this time, with the same good result.

Excellent Valker. Thanks very much. I need to open mine up to slip an MPH Face rather than KPH. Anyone know where I can get hold of an new MPH Dial?
Thanks
John

Thanks for the post gents. Does anyone know where a new GS motometer trip meter mechanism can be found?... The speedo I here has been rebuilt several times in recent years by an instrument repair shop but the trip meter continues to malfunction. I'm over sending it back to be investigated and would rather just install a new trip mechanism.

If you can't sort it, get in touch with Terry Vrla in Portland, Oregon. He's on ADV Rider as 'Wirespokes'. He does an excellent repair service, not the quickest but well worth it.

I've just had my GSPD Speedo done, excellent, now accurate and steady, $100 plus postage.

For a G/S and early paralevers Speedhut do a couple of speedos which will replace the original, they are electronic, but with or without GPS and you design your own facia.

What size would be correct for the R80g/s Mr Arkwright?
