r100gs front brake improvement

I have a 93 GS with the floating disk , and finding and fitting HH pads made a decent improvement for a small additional outlay over replacing with stock.

However , I paid around $28- to HPM for a nicely made adapter to take the six pot Tokico caliper found on a few turn of the century Kawasukis, and cheap and easy to find.

HPM is a vendor on the Adventure Riders forum.

With a set of EBC HH 102 pads in the new caliper there is a nice step up from the twin pot Brembo, for a modest outlay.

For around $100- I have a brake which has no trouble locking the tire, and I dont need any more than that.

Do you have any pics of that set up beemerboff?

My take on the poor front brake saga is -

R100GS-PD standard single piston brake caliper - dire
Modified K100 twin pot caliper - poor
stainless steel brake pipes - not brilliant.
Floating steel brake disc - barely safe.

Next step?

R100GS-PD standard twin piston brake caliper on bigger disc - sort of OK.

Money no object? How about: http://www.spiegler.de/en/products/brake-systems/bmw-brake-improvement

Is there a recommended stainless pipe maker for the front to go from the master cylinder to the caliper?

Obvious answer is Spiegler:augie

I had a Spiegler disk and 4 pot calliper on the GSPDC that I have now. I would not say it was any better than the HE 320mm rotor and HE 4 pot calliper.
I think the Speigler disc is of a standard size. I put it on my old bike before I sold it;) Kept the HE setup.

I think the Speigler pipe won't be a budget option given that the full fat improvement set up costs €799

And you say it's no better than the "budget" €225 disc and rotor or €395 for the disc, and 4 pot caliper :mmmm

Bugger... maybe I should have kept it

I'm quite happy with the HE disk/caliper. Feels like there is as much braking as I need. If I want more, he does 3, I think, grades of pads. I've gone for the long-lasting;)

You can find "Lucas Bremsleitung" on ebay de for about €50... dunno how that compares....:nenau

Venhill etc cost about £25 in the UK, whereas Euro land seem to be at least €50

The main query I guess is the lower bit, to replace the solid pipe onto the caliper, and the fittings that is needed.

At present I've got a semi floating caliper, with HH sintered pads, stainless braided upper and solid lower pipes

i found i needed a slightly longer solid pipe making up to reach the relocated caliper with the HE kit. not essential, but looks less bodgy IME.

i also think retaining the solid pipe looks neater than weaving the hose around the fork leg, but that's just me :nenau

Personally, I don't like the flexi all the way to the calliper. I think it looks crap and "looks" vulnerable inside the fork leg. So a nice steel pipe is what I have. You can get one made up for next to nowt.
I looks like a "proper job" having the pipe. IHMO of course:)

Hi John
Ive recently done the conversion to a six pot Tokico using the HPM adaptor.
For the brake line I went to JLS Motorsport AKA James Lister & Sons Union Street West Bromwich.Biker friendly outfit, theyll make up anything you want,on the spot.Even the fancy coloured ones.
I had a 40 inch brake line,banjo bolts banjos,all in stainless.
Tellem your trade ,get 40% off.Cost me just a tad over £20.
Took about 10 mins to knock up.
