I've got a very nice almost mint R100R Classic.
The thing is I don't use it very much due to having other stuff to play on, soooo I got to thinking how would it cope with a nice looking classic style side car ?
What's involved in terms of putting one on, would it mean ruining the bike as a solo machine ?
It's a really nice bike and a new or almost new, or very good restored car wouldn't look out of place.
I'm just trying to work out the viability and costs. Do some places specialise in this sort of thing ? :nenau
I haven't seen a bike like mine with a sidecar attached, come to think of it you don't really see many anyway.
A certain appeal they ave though.... :D

Quite a few online if you use google search? A lot of people seem to be adding a motopodd sidecar.

is that the sort of thing your looking to do ?

Nice one, looks good.
Yep that's what I was thinking of look wise, does that chair have the roof cover ?
What I wouldn't want is to make it irreversible, and I'm looking at the front end/forks and it looks complicated.
Your set up looks great though, other than the front end is anything else changed ?
Thanks for posting the pics.... :thumb:

Any idea of cost for chair and professional fitting ? :nenau

£750 plus fittings and the cost of the chair I guess!

:cant remember now as i bought it like that its since gone ,its my third outfit ive had have a look at watsonian website as they fitted my first one ,there is a proper way to have it set up ,the first outfit i had ran on normall forks the later one on leading link ive got to be honest and say i didnt notice much difference ,allthough the price difference is huge .
when i had my first outfit on normal forks once you got used to it you could roll that along at a good pace ,just remember never ever go out in a sidecar unless you have some weight in the chair ,otherwise you might end up carrearing across the road in front of a nissan mounting the kerb running down a metal fence and ending up in a field ,not that has ever happened to me :augie

You CAN ride a BMW R series, twin or monoshock fitted with a chair on standard forks, BUT you're a bloody fool if you do [ imho ] Put leading link forks on [ keep the originals to return to standard if you ever want to of course ] and they make a lovely handling outfit.
Also running a 15" or 16" car type rear wheel gives you a great range of tyres a lot cheaper than bike tyres...
Some place were doing a conversion "kit" >> Leading links + front and rear car type wheels + tyres + sidecar mounting subframe to fit on R series frame..
I'll see if I can find it in my old records ....
