I just bought a project R1100GS. I have a spare 1150GSA engine & gearbox and front legs. Thinking of swapping them out. I assume it is a straight swap plus ECU? Anyone done anything similar?

Engine perhaps?

But the gearbox mount points ear frame mounts are all wrong! Cable clutch V hydraulic clutch

Just go buy an 1150 and save yourself a shitload of bother !

I already have an 1150GSA so this one is just for shits and giggles!

I was told that the gearbox on the 1150 is slightly longer and so the paralever arm shorter than the 1100 version, it may also need swapped but don't let that stop you

The 1150 is the better bike . The 1100 has oodles of “ character “ 😳😂

Well I had an 1100 that I wrote off years ago avoiding a Luton van doing an illegal u turn. It went end over end (as did I ) and it was disconcerting seeing it all in slow motion and wondering if it would hit me or not. I really liked that bike. So when this project (300 notes - fantastic bargain!) came up I was tempted to see what could be done with what spares I have in the garage and it has to be cheaper than a Unit Garage build for sure!

I mean one of the members on here put the front end of an R1250GS on his R1150GS so from that point of view anything is possible 😂

Yes, cos s it's 6 gears... Etc... so much will look similar but so much will be different... Loom differences? the mentioned mounting points and brackets?
1150s are "better" but many parts of the design of the 1100 are actually better...
I had an 11 when 1150s came out and I wanted one... When I sold them and then owned both 11/1150 models for many years the differences shrunk and I'm happy with my 1100... I don't live south with bike related ULEZ though but I doubt they'd understand if you made a hybrid...😆

The subframes are different, gearbox mounting points.
The 1150 has hydraulic clutch, so as well as that hardware, you’ll also need to fit the clutch master cylinder, which means you’ll also have to fit 1150 switch gear.
The gear position indicator is also different, so you’ll need to cut into the loom to fit an 1150 plug.
Then there’s the exhaust, 1100 has three stud fixings, 1150 has two. And the rest of the exhaust system is completely different.
There are so many small, but significant details which are different that, to me, the small benefits just aren’t worth the effort.

And after all that it’ll be a “bitsa” that no one will touch with a barge pole ..
good luck ..
