R1100 GS Speedo not working

As above speedo not working, BUT...
Fitted new cable. Put bike on centre stand, rotated front wheel and new cable turns perfectly. Connected to speedo housing but damn thinog still not working. Bought replace.ent seedo but still not working.

Put a tiny screw driver into back of speedo housing where cable conects and getly spun it. Both speedos work perfectly.

This is totally doing my head in. The cable is turnig perfectly and the speedo works manually but when I put them together it doesn't work!!!

I have shouted and sworn at it and still no joy. It seems to defy all logic.
Help!

Inner of cable is short, so not engaging in speedo

Have you tried taking the cable off and rotating it whith just one end inserted into the speedo

Or is there a broken bit stuck in the speedo housing - you could try pushing the male inner out outwards to confirm its in the speedo drive, then tighten the lock ring then you can turn the wheel end - which is unnconnected to confirm whether things are working
