Hi,

Can anyone tell me the ratio difference between an r1100gs and an r1150gs?
Im looking to lower the overall gearing slightly on my 1150 as i use it in slow moving traffic most days and i want to try and save the clutch.

Cheers

The 1100GS bevel box has a ratio of 3:1 compared to the 1150s 2.82:1.Noticeably lower and much better in traffic.Gives a lot more flexibility to the overdrive 6th gear.
They fit straight onto the 1150 swing arm as well.I fitted one for a short while,no problem.

I fitted a R1100GS final drive to my R1150GS this summer. One of the best improovements I made. I don't get as much initial judder that I used to do when pulling away in first gear. You do find yourself going up through the gears quicker, and the bike is a lot more sporty. I also find I get a much better fuel return than before, mainly because on normal A class roads I get to stay in 6th longer, and I can overtake in 6th as well.

The down side is if you plan on doing any Motorway riding, where you will suffer on fuel economy.

It's a relatively cheap and simple mod to do as you just have to replace the final drive. Get hold of a good second hand one, and swap them over.

You could make it more expensive by replacing the crown/pinion set in your final drive. But last time I checked they are about £350. Plus if you do that you might as well replace the bearings etc (£200).

a to have
I thought the 1100 was a 3:1 ? I agree it is not a good idea to have say a 33:11 as the same teeth are in the same place but thats what I thought 33:11 as opposed to the 31:11.
