sounds daft lads but will riding the 1100gs at a constant 4-5rpm 70-80mph harm the bike at all.i ride a daily 45 mile motorway commute and sometimes it feels like i,m thrashing the foook out of it,not speed wise but rpm,and before anyone says i know i should have bought a 1150.ah well we live and learn:)

On 'journeys' when making progress 4-5Krpm is for me the sweet spot. The bike can quite happily stay at that engine speed all day long if necessary.

1100 rpm

cheers lads, thought there was nothing to worry about.i,m just used to jap in line fours plodding away at 2-3rpm.still i,ve got to say the gs is possibly the best bike i,ve ever owned:thumb

Jap four doing 2-3k,to go faster, change down 2-3 gears and wind it on.

1100 twin doing anything in any gear, wind it on.

4-5k is where mine has spent the last quater of a million miles:thumb2

There's a reason that the Germans build Boxers, VW's, Porsches, BMW's. ;)

rpm

Crossed Germany 2 years ago on R1100RT.
Covered 500 miles in 6 hours including 3 stops for fuel & refreshments.
Kept target speed on autobahn of 115mph for journey.
Only consequence was afterwards bike stopped using oil.
It had used some prior to the journey.
