R1100GS Oil temp sensor problem

The gauge is showing full full bars, but the engine hasn't even warmed.
I have swapped out the sensor with one that I know works and it is still showing full bars.
I have tried to find where the sensor wired is grounded, but it may be below the battery box and it looks like a complete bollox to get at.
Has anyone had this problem and found the fault.
Any help is appreciated.

On RHS of bike on the framework supporting the instruments and beak etc in the main loom is a big crimp with all the grounds together.
A know problem. Carefully open up the outer plastic sheath and look for a big bundle of brown wires, probably all green with corrosion

I am having trouble locating where the crimp is. There is a lot of the outer sheathing has perished and needs replacing.
Neil, looking at the loom while on the bike it looks like the main loom is on the left.
The bike has had a number of modifications wiring over the years before my ownership, so may have been moved slightly.

Hi,
Just re-read your post, and see yours is an 1100, so the loom might be on the LHS (Mine was an 1150)
You will need to trace all the brown wires to find the big join, but you're in the right area

@Steptoe might be able to help, nut you may need to wait a while

Ok I thought I had this problem sorted and when I reassembled everything and tank on it showed the fault again.
It is only when I connect the fuel pump electrics that it registers on the display.
The bike has a carb conversion, so no need to display the fuel level.
But I can't figure out why it seems to have a connection to the oil temp.
Unless there is a shared earth.
PS the bike has been well fettled with by the previous owner and I never did find the big earth joint.

There are Communal Ground points between the headstock and the dash

They usually corrode and lead to all sorts of electrical gremlins

The sun was shining but became overcast about 3 o'clock while working on the bike.
I stripped the loom back as far as I could see and couldn't find the elusive Ground ( G Spot )
The loom has previously been messed with
Are you and Dr telling me I really need to find the G Spot?
