R1100GS sidestand extension

After nearly giving birth to a hernia at Lumb Farm, I decided that the 1100 sidestand is about 2" to short ... so I trooped off to Verns at VNDprojects.....and he assisted me ( I made the coffee ) in turning a 2" steel insert which matched the side stand perfectly. This was welded together so well I couldn't even see the joins !!!

Anyway, bike is a joy to put on the side stand now The sidestand is obviously longer and does touch the centre stand foot when both stands are up ( as in pic ) and you need to just push down the sidestand a tad in order to place your foot to deploy the main stand...but other than this ( and the stand is just as light as Vern bores out the insert so the sidestand is firmly held up ) it is a brilliant and recommended mod

Great job of sidestand! Mine threatens to topple when loaded with stuff and I keep meaning to sort it.

Wrigsby...don't just 'stand' there then...take it off and post it to Vern for a cracking mod

Fitted one of the bolt onto the foot of the side stand foot jobbies for the same reason. Slightly less mechanical work needed to fit it

Yes but your bike looks like it has a club foot !! Do it properly

Hadn't seen this until now.

I done mine years ago,and having looked at all the options,I think this is the neatest way of doing it(otherwise I would have used one of the other ways)

The only down side,if you can call it that,is the end of the side stand fouls on the centre stand,which is no big deal really,you just have to put the centre stand up before the side stand.

My stand had almost 3" let into it,and Kennys had 2" let into it, so putting a 1" thick puck on the end of the stand is getting nowhere near what is really needed.

I've machined up a selection of inserts of different sizes,so if anyone does come over to have it done to their stand,they can pick whatever they need.

If you want to send me your stand to mod for you,but aren't sure how much it needs extending,just get various bits of wood and put under the stand until the bike is at the right lean angle,then measure the wood,add 1/4" or 6mm,and that's how much the extension needs to be.
