Hi,
The standard seat on my R1100GS becomes very uncomfortable after about an hour and a half riding, giving me a very numb bum. Does anyone know a reasonably priced re-upholsterer ? I can't afford to spend the money on a Sargect or Corbin seat

I used to have that problem. Previous bike was a r850r and could sit on that all day.

However if you bear with it, your arse and seat to seem to reach a compromise. Having got used to it myself i have no problems at all now.

However recently went to South France and used a sheepskin cover which improves things for 300+ miles in a day (I did daily max 500 miles). I think they look good too!

You need a Sheep skin for long journeys, looks a bit daft but they are Comfy - around £35-£40.

Or a Airhawk 2 for around £49.

I've got both but I prefer the sheepskin.

......I must have the only arse in the world that`s the same shape as the 1100GS`s designer, because I`ve never suffered on mine, regardless of what trousers I wear, what the weather is like, or what distance I ride (and I`m no stranger to regular 3-500 mile days).

However,I`ll echo what Rob says about the Airhawk 2 - I use one on my Airhead (the Lego Bike) and it significantly extends the time you can spend in the saddle...useful with a 45 litre tank.....

I too found that my 1100 gave me a numb bum after an hours riding. Yet my Rockster, which is no where near as comfotable riding position, doesn't?? BMWs are just plain weird!!:P :D

I thought I couldn't afford a Sargent seat but having bought one my buttocks tell me that I really could....and it gets better with age....er, the seat not my buttocks

Thanks for all the info. I'm not sure about bearring with the seat Sea Lion, I've had the bike for four years and it still kills. I rode from Rotterdam to the International Biker Meet in Bavaria this year in one go (590 miles) and my arse was numb all that night and the next day ! Good job it wasn't a Gay biker meet or I might have been rear ended and never known about it. Seriously I seem to remeber somebody telling me that there are a few companies in this country that will re-furb your seat for a lot less than Sargent or Corbin....anyone put me in touch with them ?
