Popped round to look at a mates single spark R1150RT which had been recovered due to loss of power on the motorway. He said that it started to run rough and then failed. Was able to briefly re-start at the side of the road but then nothing.
Fuel pump seems ok and during some of my "tests" there was definitely fuel ignition taking place (little pops).
Having taken out one of the plugs, I turned the engine over a couple of times and noticed that the plug continued to spark even when the engine was at rest.
I'm thinking HES problems (or could it be the coils?) and it did have the flickering needle symptom.
My next thought was to turn the engine a little (using back wheel, bike in gear) to see if the sparking would stop, which it did, so now I'm more confident that it's the hall sensor.
Is my diagnosis bunkum?
