Hi all

As mentioned in my introductary post, i'm after a mint R1150GS, hopefully within the next few months. (Getting finances sorted as we speak :))

So, can any other 5'7'' tall, 28.5'' inside leg riders let me know how they get on with the height on a standard 1150 GS? I have tried 'getting onto' an 1150 GSA but failed......miserably. lol :D

I also have an Aprilia SL750 Shiver (6 months old Sub 2000 miles) going up for sale in the immediate future. Would accept £4500 ono, or direct swap for the right GS ;) I dont know why I bought this bike really. It was very much a case of "ohhhhh nice shiney V-twin nekkid sexyness....must buy it!" lol :blast

Anyways, I subscribed as I get the feeling I just may well be buying my next bike off one of you :)

Take care guys.

Matt

my 1150 is big n heavy.... and thats what i just love about it

anything with "Adventure" in its title IS a non starter for me cos my feet just dangle in the breeze

try an 1150........ superb!

five foot seven, with a 28 inch inside leg, just make sure you have crashbars, I did in fact have a set of shortened by 40mm shocks from wilburs, but i just used the standard now, you sort of get used to the height, but with the crashbars it dont matter anyhow as stationary stops do no damage :augie

Matt, You are welcome to throw a leg over my GS ADV to try it for size. I'm near Stoke so we could meet up an I'll let you try it. If you slide off the seat a bit when putting your foot down and watch out for white lines and leaves etc you should be fine. When you're moving the GS is fantastic even for shorter riders all it needs is a modified riding style where you try not to stop/put a foot down. PM me and we can sort a ride out sometime - trust me you will never go back to Aprilia after riding a GS. I had trouble initially with a 1150adv being too tall but I just rode round its height and got my confidence and the 1200 adv seems shorter now and much lighter.:thumb2

Matt 29'' inside leg i struggled with the standard seat ( like both feet on the ground) so fitted a 'SARGENT SEAT,now more comfortable and both feet flat on the ground.
I bought my gs 6years ago and done 76000 miles and its only used on my days off, thought about changing it several times, test ridden allsorts including 1200gs&1200adv but theres nothing that does everything as good as the 1150gs in my opinion,go for it you won't regret it.

Hi Matt,
I'm 5'8" and about 30" inside leg and have no trouble with my 2k 1150GS. I just dropped the seat to it's lower of the two settings and it's fine. Sure the weight is an issue when stationary or when trying to manoeuvre, especially on slopes and cross slopes, but you get used to it. Once moving the weight disappears.
Just thought, mine's got 17" alloy 'road' wheels off an 1150R or something and BT020/021 road tyres which lower it a little more; that may be an option worth considering and they make it steer a bit quicker and handle really well too.
Go for it mate, you won't regret it! :thumb2

Oh and welcome too :)

Cheers,
Mick

I am also a short arse

I have a standard seat scooped out with a gel pad fitted (seat in lower position).

bar risers from nippy norms bring the bars back a little but make a big difference to the comfort on long journeys.

If you plan where your going to land at lights, kerbs etc you will have no trouble.

Hi Matt,

Another 'vertically challenged' GSer! I'm 5'8", 29in inside leg. Had my 1150GS for 5 years now. Initially found the OEM seat at the lower setting, just about OK ....... as others have said, just a matter of being aware in advance. However, last year fitted a Sargent seat ...... what a difference .... now both feet almost firmly planted on the ground, 'numb bum' is a thing of the past, sooooooooooooo comfortable! :thumb

BTW, have sent you a PM.

Hi
I've a 28 inch inside leg.I've a 2003 r1150gs it's got 2 seat positions. But I felt a lot better when I got carving knife out and removed a good inch or more from seat padding. Bike seat still very comfortable due to the superb suspension. And I now get both feet down properly when bike is at standstill. You soon get used to bikes size.
