With me having huge clod hoppers, I need to adjust the gear lever to get my small landing barge of a left boot comfortably underneath for upward chages.

There's a locknut on the threaded part between the ball joints, but I just can't suss how to reduce the gap to lift the lever. I know, I know.....but I've done a search on here and trawled the usual on Youchhooob and t'internet to no avail....... WTF am I missing?

Cheers all.

take the whole thing off. clean and lube , put back higher up the shaft , adjust as needed ( now you have had it to bits and lubed it all. )

Nice one, thanks. Daft question number two in that case.....do the ball joints just pop off....or is there a secret clip/circlip that I can't quite see? (probably yes but I thought I'd ask anyway before I break the damn thing)

There are indeed clips holding the ball joints; cover with a cloth while removing them or you'll never see them again.
