Hi guys,
I've looked in the forums but did not managed to find a clear answer, so hopefully someone here can help.
I'm looking to buy my first 1150/1200 GS or R, (all depends on the right deal) but the issue is going through a doorway at the end of a path to access the rear garden where it will be kept, the handlebars are not much of a problem because there is always something that can be done, the problem will be the cylinder heads, can someone very kindly measure the width of the engine excluding any engine guards? Both 1150 and 1200 up to 2012. Many thanks

74cm on a 2010 GSA not including crash bars or cylinder head covers

I get mine in a tight gate, have to angle it in, but of a faff but you get used to it. I’ll measure width in a bit (remind me by PM in the likely event I forget)

I'm getting my 2008 R1200GS through a gate opening 900 mm wide in a 4" block wall by angling the bike and the bars and getting one side through and then the other i.e. if the opening was in an alley with continuous wall either side I wouldn't make it. That's with engine guard and mirrors fitted. Doubt I would get through 740 mm. I measured it twice:thumb2:aidan

I know, I think I'll have to wait till I move somewhere else, then the alley is fences either side and 850mm handlebars just about manage to fit. :( I'm sad. Was looking forward to own a GS.

You could still get an 800, 850. Just not a boxer.

You could look at an R65gs They're narrower. If you can find one.
