R1150GS Adv off to Morroco

Hi all
Just off to Morroco in a few weeks.
My 1150GS Adv is now sitting pretty with its new TKC shoes on.
Any tips on BIG no no's for when I am over there?
I am fluent in french (and know the french well!), tour mega miles in western europe (for years) 1up and 2up but have never been touring off road.
I used to ride trials bikes (Junior Kick Start!) but need to dig up as much info on tyre pressures etc as poss, especially WHERE to camp! ANy tips people?
Two bikes, two blokes, two tents...

Morroco, Hmmmmmm there'll be plenty along shortly to point you in the right direction

Fanum, Steptoe and Tim Cullis are all experienced in theat area and regularly arrange trips.

Agree there will be plenty of advice arriving shortly.

Best advice I got was to avoid Tangier and take the ferry Algeciras to Cueta (which is Spanish Africa). Overnight in Cueta to get your pulse rate back down and then cross the border first thing (usually Morocco is 2 hours back from Spain) so you get across nice and early.

Also avoid Rif mountains - which means direct to Meknes via Ouazzane.

Other than that relax! Lovely country, lovely people and easier than you think.

Tyre pressures are a hotly debated subject, I left mine as they were, 28 psi front and rear. Didn't have any problems either on or off road, but it was dry.
As for don'ts, never, ever show even the slightest bit of interest when in a carpet showroom. It's no good saying that you won't go in one, you'll find yourself in one by accident.
Don't think that just because you are in the middle of nowhere that it's safe to have a pee. Someone will appear from under a rock, just like Clangers.
Do have the most brilliant time.
Do write it up when you get back.

Done that route several times, and further east into the mountains, and found the people very friendly. Never had a problem.

hello,Morocco is full of places for camp,just avoid de big cities and you can camp in most places mainly in the sahara desert, you won't find any problem in camping anywhere.

Just come back and yes you can camp anywhere in the mountains or the desert - BUT

You will be plagued by kids in the mountains and to some extent the desert although less so.

The sheer amount of kit I had to take to camp with added up to so much weight it was a real struggle at time in both the mountains and the desert. In came in handy when we were in the middle of nowhere but on the whole it all added up to too much kit.

Camping gear, food, at least 10L of water meant an extra 50kg

Picking a 280kg bike up or digging it out of the sand 5-6 times a day because of the weight gets a little tiring to say the least.

Never go it alone, I got stuck under the bike in a deep river crossing and would still be there now if I was by myself.

It really is an amazing place to ride a bike, however you need to take precautions to stay safe.

Apart for that have a great trip

40kg of camping kit Feck me son!....we don't half camp light!? 5-6kg would be sufficant i would have thought...

When I said Camping kit what I really meant everything other than what I usually carry on a trip to work or a day out.

So Spare inner tubes, tool and medical kits, camping gear,clothing,17 days of food, water etc...

all adds up to 50kg

Still lighter than a stripped down 1200GS ADV
