R1150GS Adventure Pannier lock removal (without key)

Hi all,

I'm trying to remove one of the locks from my BMW aluminium panniers (the GSA standard equipment ones.)

Unfortunately I don't have a key for it - is it possible to remove the lock barrel without a key or smashing the mechanism to pieces?

It seems to need to be turned to the lock position to see the tab for removing the barrel, but I can't turn it as I don't have a key...

Any help appreciated!

You don't say if it's locked shut?

My bad!

The lock is in the open position, so the catch works but I can't turn the barrel to the locked position.

Can you see a small hole in the housing just big enough to get a paperclip in?If so you can push against the locking pawl(tab) You really need to put a key in the lock it doesn't have to be the right one but it will help to turn/remove the barrel and also stop the springs and wafers flying all over the workshop

The bottom "wafer" is what holds the barrel in

That bottom water is facing into the casing, I'd need to turn the key to make it visible. Does that make sense?

Unfortunately, all the other wafers are going to be engaged without the correct key inserted - all the advice about getting the bottom wafer disengaged isn't going to help if the rest are still standing proud, if I remember correctly.

No chance of getting an original key?

The lock needs to be picked then If you type "picking double wafer locks" into Youtube you will see how easy it looks Or maybe let the local locksmith do it in a jiffy

Roll in flour then look for the wet spot.....
