Hi,
I would appreciate some advice on the exhaust system.
I've had the bike 2 years and it came with a by pass pipe on and a Remus can-- the previous owner also gave me the cat and original pipe -- the original has only done about 17k and the bike has now done 36k.
What are the pros and cons or which would be the best set -up?
Also would there be any adjustments in tuning to be done between the two?
Thanks in advance
Rob

I run a standard exhaust with cat. Tried a Remus with cat....melted the rear plate and hanger....so back to standard. Fancy trying a stubby.

Thanks for the reply -- what's a stubby?

Very, very short pipe , no silencer (apparently you don't need one with a cat)

Interesting I've not heard of these -- have you tried one?
Are they legal -- pretty or ugly ?

Not tried one, not sure how they stand legally. Look fine, just a few inches of pipe joined onto end of cat. They come up for sale on here from time to time, and sell very quickly.

I ran my 1150 for seven years with a stubby; no problem with mot, excess noise or fuelling, merely a 10kg weight saving.

Ask and someone will doubtless post a pic.

I have been running a stubby pipe on my 1150 for over ten years now. Apart from weight loss the real benefit is that you can fit same a size pannier to the near side of the bike. The noise is no louder than with a standard silencer and I have never had a problem at mot time. It doesn't have to be a specially made stubby, any bit of pipe that fits onto the cat will do the job.

HTH

Cheers thanks for all the info--
I think I'll get the cat back on and look round for a stubby to try

I've done the cat and stubby several times over the years. A 2006 GSXR600 Remus end piece looks really trick but I've never been totally happy with the way it runs with the cat/stubby.

I have also run a y-piece and a Remus race pipe (like it a lot but it got a hole worn through the sleeve but the footrest hanger bolthead) and now have a Sebring street-legal pipe that works just as well. My 1150 has had a bit of 'breathing' work done to it so it likes the free-flowing exhausts most.

Like the looks of that !
