Hello!

Due to now owning a 2004 GSA r1150 I have an R1150GS that could do with a new home. (two very similar near identical bikes are just a tad indulgent)

Nicknamed Bertha, she took me to women in moto in 2024, and has been my daily commute bike for 2 and a bit seasons. Multiple trips to the lakes etc. Rear shock was serviced when I got her and a slightly stronger spring added.

Recently serviced/MOT'd with oil and plugs, plus new leads, new speedo cable. Valve clearances done. (over 500 spent) Michelin road pilot 6 on the front, (bought last year due to puncture) road pilot 5 on the back that has miles left in it.

Very clean for her years, and has never let me down. She's good for a season of riding and commuting. She does use bit of oil these days (she's a quarter century old -so we may need to forgive her that) and would perhaps benefit from a new oil filler cap and a de cat (I have pipe just never fitted) She will come with a top box 55 litre givi and the BMW hard panniers with internal bags.

Point to note: the side stand, under tray and centre stand are all GSA so she takes a bit of welly to lift on the centre stand. The centre stand is also slightly twisted (was like that when sourced from James Sherlock) but I do have the GS centres trained - however the longer side stand won't go all the way up if this is refitted (hence my mod) In practice you get used it, but worth a mention.

I'd rather sell her to someone on the forum than Flea-bay or FB market place - so open to cash offers between £1500 and 2k.

If people are of a mind to offer a swap id have to be picky as I've a Ducati ST2 to rebuild, so swaps will have to be Moto Guzzi or Harley Davidson to ease the financial pain of three bikes.

The typo in the thread title might be a bit confusing for some but I think the photos are the real problem. They won't help a prospective buyer make a decision at all. Plenty of close ups is what you need.

Looks fine enough... How much oil does it use cos it might mean nothing as they all use a bit...👍 Lots of decent bits on there...
Fair - she uses may be a half litre 1000miles - ?

I keep an eye on it and it seems to be she uses more in the colder days - though she never over heats, and has never failed me thus far.

agreed, I tried to edit but couldn't figure how

as for the pictures fair point - she ain't a minter as shes had a rough year (my garage wasn't very wind and water tight) and now she sleeps out doors, some flaky paint on the engine, but she has it where it counts and rides well.

TBH i'm inclined to keep unless someone crosses my palm with upgrade levels of cash that I can sink into the GSA, especially as I can swap the wheels and run the GS on rockster alloys.

All in all this is a first world problem as I'm well on the way to having two very nice classy GS variants - nowt wrong with that - it just feels a bit .. same-y. Would love a K1300 in orange. :-)

If anyone would like the panniers/rails/inner bags and top box/givi plate I'll set separate ...as I'm moving to Kriega/Oxford OSbase/atlas combo, and if the GS stays it may become a road variant scrambler

Ah, the road variant scrambler... Then you'd use your ADV all the time I suppose...😆 It's not the bike, it's the market, ie there isn't one at the mo...😉

Yeah - it's weird I know but they ride so different - the ADV is somehow more raw than the older GS. I like the higher riding position on the ADV, (its got lowered pegs and standard seat) where as the GS even with the seat in high still give me a bent leg and a flat foot at the junctions so feels cramped in longer rides. (whereas the standard seat on the ADV gives me numb bum)

It's tricky to judge right now cos I've had the GS for two years and know it well whereas I'm still getting used the other one. Plus I suspect the master cylinder is goosed (been told the slave cylinder is fine) because there's a lot of free play before pressure and the lever is looser than a bankers morals. (I'm able to operate the clutch on the GS with three fingers, whereas the one on the ADV needs to come all the way back to the bar to disengage - which as I've said is cos half the lever travel is wasted )

Basically I need to merge the two bikes to create the perfect ride. Then go buy a Harley to park next to it.

Ha...😆 Nice dilemmas to have... The ADV is really the definitive Oilheads GS which is why it's still sought after, just... Plush as an 11 but with the early Ewan and Charlie cred even though most people will have forgotten they were on a lowly Oilhead...😂

If you get the Harley you can spend days polishing that while using the ADV as the rider bike...👍😄

Yes thats fair, I guess I'm very lucky ... between them these bikes have done 190k miles yet they survived - 25 and 21 years respectively.

:-)

and they do make nice pair.

First one to offer a grand and come see it will buy it.

I need both the space and the cash - and Bertha deserves to be ridden - I fear she will become a nice garden ornament in the shadow of her big sister.

How North and East are you?
