Just thought I'd say hello and give my initial thoughts on R1150GS ownership. I bought a black non ABS one last Saturday. 2002 5003 miles. I bought it for a couple of reasons. I want to do a trip to Northern Norway in the near future and didn't think that my other bikes (2001 GSXR600 and 1995 Scorpion tour) would be suitable, the former because of lack of pillion and luggage carrying capacity and the latter due to vibes and lack of power. Secondly while I bought the Gixxer in 2002 with 2,500 miles on it it now has 25,000 miles on it. Its still imaculate and rides like new, as the Scorpion gets used in the Winter, but is apparently worth bugger all as, nowone puts that sort of miles on them!! I did 500 miles on the GS1150 on Sat and Sunday. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It handles reasonably well is really comfy and I hardly noticed my wife on the Pillion. Have already ordered one of those tobinator things though! For 95% of my riding it was plenty. However, the GSXR would be way more fun on a trackday which I do about 5-6 times a year and the GS1150 would be a bit slow solo on the roads in Northern Scotland which I'd visit a couple of times a year.
the bikes are as far apart in motorcycling term as you could get and for that reason both will occupy space in my garage for a while. Recon the BM would make a good winter bike as well as its easy to service and clean. 1995 Scorpion anyone?
